There's no strict rules, feel free to be inconsistent with other novels and such. For example, the book Conviction of Steel describes Brutewood as a for-profit prison, but you don't have to follow that, and implies that it sends and receives inmates from around the world, which doesn't have to be true in your works. Moxie

Moxie is a powerful, muscular and brutal thug, with a barrel chest and a heavily-tattooed body. He has crude features, a constant sneer and a shaved head. His arrogance and his relentless intimidation often leads to his undoing or becoming the victim of his own techniques and methods.

  • In Deep Orange he arrives midway through the story, and his cruelty brings the sexuality and the raunch in the prison skyrocketing. He introduces body modification and forces inmates into humiliating sexual positions, profiting from their exploitation and brooking no dissent or mercy.
  • In Tats Downlow he appears again, and is similarly cruel and heartless, a pimp and gang leader who coerces a male gangbanger into flirting with and eventually sleeping with a man.

Victor Manello is a young, macho man whose arrogance makes him think he is invulnerable behind bars. Cocky and usually thuggish, Victor is undone by the fact that his masculine bullying has always been untested, and he is easy pickings for the tougher inmates around him.

Officer Barnett is a guard, cop or prison officer character who is characterized by a military style and need for absolute control over his wards. He is rules-obsessed and does not allow for outright lawlessness, but does not hesitate to sexually humiliate and victimize inmates. He is typically of Southern origin.

  • Officer Barnett is one of the starring characters in No Homo, where he follows the rules strictly and exerts a powerful, masculine control over the entire prison.
  • The unnamed police officer in The Prisoner Fantasy is a Barnett-type character who helps set up a prison-fuck role-play session for a gay man.


Wendell "Thumper" White is a middle-aged or older thug or criminal, not elderly and still vibrant, macho and sexy. He is not an outwardly violent or evil man, but is manipulative and scheming, his kindness dulled by many years in the criminal justice system.   • In No Homo, Thumper appears as a former boxer, sidelined and imprisoned by the accidental death of his opponent in an unlicensed boxing match. While he does not participate in outright gay sex in this book, Thumper participates in crude and disgusting acts that he sees as non-sexual. He humps and dominates the other inmates, forcing them into sexual humiliation.
  • Prison in My Day is a prequel to No Homo and is about Thumper's origin, and his final days of freedom.
